V-Force Three Coin Set
The perfect Christmas gift for the aviation enthusiast!
The Royal Air Force’s (RAF) nuclear deterrent during the Cold War was nicknamed the V-Force. The V-Force consisted of three aircraft, the Vickers Valiant, AVRO Vulcan and the Handley Page Victor. Finished in anti-flash white paint to protect against thermal radiation in the event of a nuclear explosion, the aircraft were on standby to scramble 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our V-Force set includes three stunning highly detailed 2.00” coins, laid out in a V shape in a beautiful fitted presentation box. The striking differences in the shape of each V bomber aircraft is apparent as the coins feature them in plan view on the obverse. A detail easily missed at first glance is the miniature text around each aircraft, this text is unique to each coin.
The reverse of each coin depicts V-Force crews rushing to their aircraft after receiving the call to scramble. At the height of the Cold War, V-Bomber crews regularly practised scrambling multiple aircraft to test their response time in the event of a nuclear attack.
The V-Force, though never used in anger, represents one of the most tense and iconic periods in the RAF’s history.
